Canada opens World Cup with convincing win over South Africa

SURGUT, Russia — Canada crushed South Africa 18-3 in the opening game for both teams at the FINA Women's Water Polo World Cup on Tuesday. Krystina Alogbo of Montreal led Canada with four goals.

Kindred Paul had three goals for Canada, Elyse Lemay-Lavoie , Gurpreet Sohi, Emma Wright and Monika Eggens notched two apiece, while Kelly McKee, Joelle Bekhazi and Hayley McKelvey added singles.

Goalkeeper Claire Wright recorded the win.

Canada faces New Zealand on Wednesday.

The FINA World Cup takes place every non-Olympic year between world championships and serves as a qualifier the for the 2019 world championship in South Korea.
