The BC Wildlife Park launched its 22nd annual Wildlights last night (Dec. 13) and there's more than ever to take in.
Presented by Cascades Casino, this year has over 800,000 lights on display from now until Jan. 5, 2020.
After some suggestions that displays were getting stale, the park decided to shake things up this year.
"The biggest feature is a 250-foot tunnel of lights with 25,000 lights," says Julie Ratcliffe, marketing and events manager with BC Wildlife Park. "We were really trying to find a way to get people to travel down the back road, because people would just walk up the front and then turn around. We found that on Pinterest and gave it a shot and the facilities team did an amazing job!"
Crews started setting up the lights in September.
Along with all looking at all those painstaking exhibits they've set up, there are tons of events running throughout the holidays. Kamloops Art Party is around doing face painting, there's a giving tree dedicated to their new flying squirrel Ranger and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there every night ahead of Christmas.
Opening night saw more than 650 people check out Wildlights. Ratcliffe says those numbers will only grow once school lets out for the holidays.
Last year's Wildlights saw approximately 18,000 people come through the wildlife park gates.
