Stefan Zwiers took one step closer to the 2012 Summer Olympics judo tatamis.
A silver-medal showing July 4 at the U.S. Open in Miami helped the 22-year-old Prince George Judo Club member lock up a spot on Canada's national team for the Pan-Am Games, Oct. 14-30 in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Zwiers, who is now based in Montreal, was one of 11 athletes named this week to the Canadian team coached by Nicolas Gill, a two-time Olympic medalist. Zwiers earned a silver medal in May at the senior national championships in Edmonton.
