Zone gold for Polars

Three games at zones, three wins at zones.

The PGSS Polars would love to keep on a similar roll when they arrive in North Vancouver in early March for the triple-A girls high school basketball provincial championship tournament. But, against the best teams in B.C., they know victories will be much tougher to find.

"I'm really nervous going down there but I'm sure we'll give every team a hard game," said Grade 12 forward Natalie Chappell, whose Polars downed the North Peace Ookapiks of Fort St. John 70-35 in Saturday's zone final at Kelly Road secondary. "We think (provincials) will be about the same as last year."

Chappell, named MVP of the five-team zone tournament, was also part of the PGSS squad that competed at the B.C. final last year and went 1-3.

The current Polars had little trouble winning the school's third consecutive zone championship. They started the event by beating North Peace 64-30 and then rolled past the host Roadrunners in the semifinals.
