Zone 8 boat takes bronze at BC Summer Games

A splash was made Friday that had nothing to do with Mother Nature's tearful mood. The Cariboo Northeast Zone 8 canoe/kayakers opened the 2012 BC Summer Games in Surrey by grabbing hold of a bronze medal at the Pitt Meadow Paddling Club.

The Prince George paddlers didn't mine the rainy conditions as they earned bronze in the six-person outrigger canoe. Members of the boat were: Gemma Hansen, Tomas Bonafine, Daniel and Steven Houston-McMillan and Meryeta O'Dine. A stern-master was assigned to the canoe to complete the six-person team.

The BC games continue until Sunday.
