A wrestler from Prince George secondary school has already qualified for the Canadian championships next month.

Now, Tristina Howse is asking for an extra push from the community to get her to Fredericton, N.B., where she plans to compete in the 80-kilogram cadet girls division from April 9-12.

The 16-year-old Grade 10 student has created a Go Fund Me page (http://www.gofundme.com/o4lpj0) with a goal of raising $2,000 which would cover her flight costs and accommodations.

"I've been looking for sponsors to help me out," said Howse, who has competed in the sport for the last three years. "I like wrestling. It's an independent sport. When you're on the mat, it's just you. You can't blame anyone else but you."

Howse won gold in her 75kg division at the north central high school zone championships in February, where she was selected the most outstanding female wrestler in the north. She finished fourth at the high school provincials in Abbotsford in late-February.

"Fourth was a personal best for me at provincials, there were 10 girls in my weight class," she said. "I've been improving every day I step on the mat."

As of Friday, $550 had been raised. People can donate on the Go Fund Me page until April 8.
