Women T-wolves look for first win of season

A busy weekend is upon the UNBC Timberwolves sports teams.

The women's soccer team will attempt to pull of its first win of the 2013 Canada West season Friday when it hosts the CIS seventh ranked Trinity Western Spartans (1-1-3) at the North Cariboo Senior Soccer fields at 7 p.m. The T-wolves are 0-5-1 this season.

On Sunday at noon, the T-wolves host the UBC Thunderbirds (2-0-3), the fourth ranked team in the country. Both women's games will be streamed online at unbc.canadawest.tv.

The men's soccer team is out of town for a pair of games in Abbotsford against the Fraser Valley Cascades, Friday and Saturday at 7:15 p.m.

The T-wolves basketball teams get their first action of the 2013-14 season with their annual alumni games, with the women up Saturday, 6 p.m. and the men to follow at 8 p.m. The alumni games are at the Northern Sport Centre and admission is by donation to Shinerama.

* Also at the Northern Sport Centre on Friday is the CIS exhibition volleyball match between the TRU Wolfpack and the UBC-Okanagan Heat. Three Prince George athletes play for the Wolfpack - fifth-year players Colin Carson and Spencer Reed and second-year middle-blocker Nic Balazs. Game time is 7 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door.
