Hayden Wolff is revving up for this weekend's race at the Blackwater Motocross Track.

The 12-year-old Kawasaki rider is coming off a trio of third-place finishes at his second event of the season June 2-3 in Williams Lake. Wolff was forced to start his third season of riding late after a painful injury in practice.

"I was just going around a corner and heard my back end start to go and my finger got driven into the ground and I got 13 stitches and shattered it," he said about how he injured his middle finger on his right hand.

He rides in two of the 18 classes, 85cc and Super mini, that will be competing at Blackwater, June 23, 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All riders are expected to arrive for the 7:30 a.m. meeting with practice runs starting up 30 minutes later.

The competition in Prince George is part of the B.C. Motocross Association's North Series and is the fourth in an eight-event season. The series returns to Blackwater for the final weekend Sept. 15, 16. All races count for points in the Canadian Motocross Racing Corporation.

Shelley Wolff, Hayden's mom and a member of the P.G. Motocross Association board of directors, said their ready to get things started.

"Rain or shine," she said, adding only a torrential downpour that creates safety hazards would stop the race. "We groomed the course [Thursday] and we're going to finish grooming it today and then we're good to go."

The P.G. Motocross Association will also hold a raffle for an autographed Chad Reed jersey.

Shelley said despite the early season injury that benched Hayden he's riding well.

"He's having a lot of fun," she said. "That's what we want him to have, fun."
