The Prince George Lawn Bowling Club is offering free introductory lessons for anyone interested in trying the sport. Instruction will take place on June 15 at the club's Watrous Street facility, starting at 7 p.m. The club will supply all the necessary equipment, with the exception of shoes. Shoes should have a flat sole with very little grip so they don't damage the greens.

Lawn bowling can be compared to curling, without the ice and the sweeping. The ball -- or bowl as it is known -- has a running surface that causes it to curl as it rolls down the green. This action allows shots to go around guards, much like in curling.

Those interested in participating in the free lessons are asked to pre-register. For information, contact John Warner at 250-563-4888 or via e-mail at jayjwarner@shaw.ca.

New players are also welcome during any of the regular game days -- Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1 p.m., Wednesdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

The club offers two free games for new members. After that, the cost is very low.
