The UNBC Timberwolves men's soccer team has added some offensive flair to its lineup.
Theo Weismiller, who suits up as an attacking midfielder or wing, has committed to UNBC for the 2018 Canada West season. The six-foot-two graduate of Victoria's Reynolds secondary school played in a youth program under current Timberwolves head coach Steve Simonson and was a teammate of several present-day members of the UNBC club - Jonah Smith, Cody Gysbers, Aidan Way and Joel Watson.
"I'm so excited," said the speedy Weismiller, who recently arrived at UNBC and has been training at the Northern Sport Centre with the T-wolves. "The facilities are sick, the team is awesome. All the guys seem great so far - my roommates who I've known since high school are awesome, and, obviously, Steve is a great coach. I am really excited to be here."
Weismiller graduated from Reynolds in 2016 and spent one year at the University of Victoria. Soccer-wise, he said he has room for growth but is up to the challenge that lies ahead.
"I'm definitely going to have to get a little more physical - get stronger, work on my cardio," he said. "I think that will be the big step for me. I like the gym, and I like going for runs, so it shouldn't be a problem."
Last season - their sixth in Canada West - the Timberwolves qualified for the playoffs for the first time. Seven regulars are gone from that club so Weismiller will have the opportunity to step in and make an impact right away. His plan is to score "a whole lot of goals - that's what I'm hoping for."
Off the field, Weismiller will pursue a joint major in political science and international studies.
