Volleyball Chargers hire Dahl

Chris Dahl is back among the volleyball head coaching ranks in the B.C. Colleges Athletic Association.

The former coach of the now-defunct College of New Caledonia Kodiaks men's team was hired this week to take over as head coach of the Camosun Chargers women's team.

"I'm excited and ready for the challenge," said Dahl, the former program co-ordinator of the Prince George Youth Volleyball Club.

"It's always nice to run your own program. Over the years you have ideas of what you'd like to see. I've been fortunate enough to work with a lot of great coaches over the years and from that you find things you'd like to incorporate in your program."

While at Camosun, Dahl hopes to tap into the Prince George high school volleyball pipeline. That talent has been draining away ever since CNC ended its involvement in college sports as a cost-cutting measure in 2008.

"It goes back a long time, going back to when I was growing up in Prince George, that the there is a wealth of talent coming out of the Prince George region," Dahl said. "Prince George has been producing high-level volleyball athletes for years and everybody from Prince George who is seeking a post-secondary athletic experience is probably going to have to leave town and I would hope a place like Victoria would be an option. I will definitely try to rely on my connections in Prince George to get some athletes to Victoria."
