The defending national champions had totally fresh troops on the field.
The newcomers to Canada West, meanwhile, used largely the same personnel as the previous night.
The result was predictable.
The University of Victoria Vikes, ranked No. 1 in the nation, dominated the UNBC Timberwolves in a men's soccer game played Saturday in Victoria. For the Timberwolves, the final whistle couldn't come soon enough in an 8-0 loss.
"They're the best program in the country right now -- they're incredibly deep," UNBC coach Alan Alderson said of the Vikes. "Last season they did the same thing. On one night they would play 11 guys, and the next night basically an entire new 11 so they've been in the rhythm of doing that for a year now.
"The great thing about playing a team that good is that it definitely exposes the areas where we need to work. We are extremely young and, against really good players, the things that we need to work on shine pretty bright."
On Friday, in their Canada West debut, the Timberwolves gave the Vikes reason to be nervous in a game that ended 3-1 in favour of the hosts.
But, on Saturday, UVic -- relying on its impressive stable of talent -- was simply too strong for the T-wolves. The Vikes were ahead 4-0 at half-time and continued to roll in the final 45 minutes.
