It's been a while, almost five months to be exact, but UNBC's men's soccer side finally played outdoors on the weekend.

After months of practice inside the Northern Sport Centre, the Timberwolves hit the pitch in Kamloops and posted a .500 record in a pair of friendly matches against the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack.

UNBC edged TRU 2-1 in a come-from-behind victory on Saturday, but the WolfPack rebounded with a 1-0 shutout Sunday.

On Saturday, TRU opened with a goal in the 41st minute, but the Timberwolves bounced back in the second half with a pair of goals.

Third-year midfielder Brett Bobier struck for UNBC's first goal, with an assist by second-year striker Tofa Fakunle, in the 60th minute.

Fakunle then found the back of the net with a penalty kick in the 64th minute.

"Both games were very similar, and very good first halves and scoring opportunities," said UNBC head coach Alan Alderson. "We had really strong finishes on both days. On the second day, even though we lost, we had 16 decent scoring chances compared to four by TRU. We're not happy with the result, but we're very pleased since we're a very young team."

UNBC's women went 2-0 against TRU on the weekend, defeating the WolfPack 4-3 on Saturday and 1-0 on Sunday.

The men's soccer team travels to Langley on April 10 to tackle Trinity Western in another friendly, followed by an exhibition match against UBC Okanagan on April 11 in Kelowna.
