If and when UNBC applies again to join the CIS, the application process will likely be fast-tracked to speed up the process.
Because its application was so strong, Canada West University Athletic Association told UNBC it would likely not have to wait until 2012 to reapply, nor would UNBC be forced to pay the $10,000 application fee again.
"We reached a consensus of our members and they are very interested in developing a process that would look at how we could bring this back to the table quicker," said Canada West president Sandy Slavin. "Our membership committee has been charged with the task of putting that together and bringing it back to our members when we meet in June."
As it now stands, the earliest UNBC can reapply is January 2012.
"There is a recognition that because of the work UNBC has put in we'd almost have to do it within a year, so that work doesn't get out of date," Slavin said.
It's a certainty UNBC will reapply.
"We will get into the CIS, and I will not rest until that day," UNBC president George Iwama said.
