The regular season may be over for the Prince George bantam female Cougars, but some of the players have extended their season.

Six from the squad are competing at the Female Under-16 B.C. Cup in Salmon Arm this weekend.

Part of B.C. Hockey's high performance program, the Cup features athletes divided into six teams competing against each other over a two-day span.

There are also components focusing on warm-up technique, strength and conditioning, nutrition and game play.

Four of the six Cougars in Salmon Arm are from Prince George and include 14-year-old forward Mishayla Christensen, 15-year-old centre Megan Goetken, 14-year-old centre Jordan McMillan and 13-year-old defenceman Malena Pillipow.

The other two Cougars are from Fort St. James - 15-year-old defenceman Sophie Davis and 14-year-old goaltender Colby Wilson.

"It's a good opportunity for me to get better and to continue my season," said Pillipow.

"It means a lot - it's a pretty big deal with scouts being there and it increases my chances of going to university," added Goetken.

Goetken and McMillan are using the Cup as a stepping stone for the triple-A midget female level. They have aspirations of making the Northland Dodge Cougars next season.

The bantam Cougars tried out in early January at zone tryouts as each region sent 20 girls.
