Five Prince George players, four from Quesnel, three from Fort St. James, and two from Burns Lake have made the grade for this weekend's Under-16 B.C. Cup hockey tournament in Salmon Arm.
The locals survived the cut after tryouts in Vanderhoof two weeks ago and earned the right to play in the 160-player jamboree, which starts today.
Prince George players in Salmon Arm include forwards Darren Hards, Dylan Krahn, James Gordon, and Mitchell Williams, as well as defenceman Jared Stevens.
Goalie Reign Turley and forward Keith Redden and defencemen Jared Martell and Cole Slaney are from Quesnel. The Burns Lake contingent includes defenceman Bryce Gray and Curtis Brown, while defenceman Joey Saharchuk and forward Dallas Goodwin will represent Fort St. James.
Turley and Hards will suit up for the Avalanche, Gray and Williams will play for the Bruins, Stevens will skate for the Canucks, Goodwin is on the Flyers, Saharchuk and Redden are Kings, the Stars have Brown, and Gordon is part of the Wild.
Games start tonight at 7:45 with the Bruins taking on the Sabres, followed by the Canucks-Stars game at 9:15.
The top 60 players from the jamboree will be selected for the provincial camp in Nanaimo, July 10-14. From that camp, 20 players will form Team B.C. to play in the Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup in late October.
Trevor Sprague of the Cariboo Cougars major midget squad will serve as head coach of the B.C. team.
