Team Canada calls Marques, Cougars Buczkowski and Mulawka

Three locals selected for World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in November

Prince George Cougars defenceman Tyson Buczkowski and goaltender Madden Mulawka will both be playing for Canada during the Under-17 Hockey Challenge, even though they won’t be on the same team.

The tournament, which runs Nov. 3 to Nov. 12 in Langley and Delta, features three Canadian Teams – Team Canada Red, White and Black – along with teams from the United States, Finland, Sweden and the Czech Republic.

Buczkowski will be in the lineup for Team Canada Black while Mulawka will suit up for Team Canada White, joining Prince George minor hockey product Miguel Marques on the White squad.

“The Cougars would like to congratulate both Tyson and Madden on this accomplishment and wish them the best of luck in the lower mainland in November,” a statement released by the team..

The 16-year-old Marques plays left wing the WHL for the Lethbridge Hurricanes, the team that selected him 10th overall in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft.

Marques scored his first goal of the season Oct. 8 in a game against Prince Albert. In 10 games last season withe 'Cans he scored two goals and had four assists. Marques lit up the scoreboard last season at Delta Academy, where he collected 42 goals and 116 points in 31 games for the U-17 prep team. He also produced seven goals and five assists in five games with Delat Academy's U-18 prep team.

Buczkowski, 16, hails from Saskatoon, Sask. and has played four games this season for the Cougars. The five-foot-11 d-man has registered six shots on goal during his four games. Team Canada Black starts their tournament in a game against Team Canada Red at 7 p.m. on Nov. 3.

Mulawka, 16, from Edmonton has a 1-1 record in two regular season games with the Cats. He also picked up a pair of wins in the pre-season. His first game with Team Canada White will be against Team Sweden on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m.
