The D.P. Todd Trojans hope to fulfill one of their goals tonight.
The senior boys basketball squad battles the PGSS Polars in the 2014 city championship game at the Northern Sport Centre. Tip-off is 8 p.m.
"One of our goals we set was to get out of the city's," said Trojans head coach Norm Garfield.
"It's going to be a really tough game. They [PGSS] have Tyrell [Laing] in their lineup and that will require a lot of focus on him and we'll need to contain him."
The Trojans have a perfect record against the Polars this season at 3-0.
"It should be a good crowd, and the boys are hyped about it," said Garfield. "There are always good fans at the city league championships."
The Polars also know tonight's game is going to be a tough test.
"It's going to take 40 minutes of perfect basketball to beat them... it won't be easy," said Polars coach Nav Parmar. "They're not going to beat themselves. It's our last game against D.P. Todd and we expect we'll get the best out of them."
The Polars are a young team, made up mostly of Grade 10 and 11 players.
"Everybody knows their role, it's the biggest game of their careers," said Parmar. "It will take all 11 players to play with high energy and intensity."
The Cedars Christian Eagles and Duchess Park Condors will battle in the senior girls city final at 6 p.m. The Eagles are the defending city champions.
After the city championships, both senior boys' squads will prepare for their zone playdowns.
The Polars will travel to Quesnel for the quadruple-A zones Feb. 21-22 where they'll face Correlieu secondary.
The Trojans will host the double-A zone playdowns Feb. 20-22.
