The D.P. Todd Trojans claimed the Kodiak Classic senior boys high school volleyball title Saturday at CNC.
But the Duchess Park Condors made them work for it.
The Trojans needed three sets to defeat the Condors, after Duchess Park won the first set 25-20.
D.P. Todd then won the second with a score of 25-23 and capped the match off with a 15-11 victory.
In the bronze-medal match, the Duchess Park junior squad defeated the PGSS Polars 2-0, with scores of 25-20 and 25-12.
D.P. Todd senior Ryan Gaiesky was selected tournament MVP, while his teammate Keiran Leboe was among six all-stars.
That all-star team included a pair of Duchess Park junior players, Carter Karpenko and Cody Boulding; a pair from Duchess Park's senior squad, Eden Sing and Noah Matyas, and Pierce Obrycky from PGSS.
In the senior girls final, the Condors defeated the College Heights Cougars in straight sets, with scores of 25-17 and 25-17. The Cedars Christian Eagles beat PGSS 25-14, 25-20 to capture the bronze medal.
Duchess Park senior Hallie Drezet was named the tournament MVP.
Her teammate Brooke Unger was selected as an all-star, alongside Kendal Samuelson of PGSS, Macie Hogg of the Caledonia junior squad, Carli Davies of Caledonia's senior team, Jaymie Kwiatkowski of Cedars Christian and Megan Warner from College Heights.
The College Heights Cougars senior and junior boys teams competed at the University of Calgary Varsity Boys tournament on the weekend.
The senior Cougars finished with an overall 3-3 record and placed seventh out of 16 teams. They opened Friday with victories against Sir William Charles (25-19, 25-20), Beaverbrook (25-15, 25-20), but lost to George McDougall (25-21, 25-23).
On Saturday, they suffered a pair of losses to William Aberhart (25-14, 29-27) and Western (25-23, 25-21) but finished with a 25-22, 25-21 victory over George McDougall.
The junior Cougars finished 10th out of 16 teams with a 2-4 record. They earned wins against Western and Springbank, but suffered losses to E.P. Scarlett, Sir William Charles and Calgary Christian.
Duchess Park hosts a senior boys volleyball tournament this weekend. The first serve is set for 3 p.m. on Friday.
