The Prince George Polars know all about the hardships of Trojan Wars.
Last year at this time they went into the D.P. Todd gym to take on the host of the annual senior boys basketball tournament in the final and lost by six points.
But this time around the Polars know they can beat the only ranked team in the eight-team tournament. The Trojans, who carry honourable mention status in the B.C. Boys Basketball Association double-A rankings, lost to PGSS 88-83 in a City League game played Wednesday at D.P. Todd.
Because they are seeded in different pools, the only way the Trojans and Polars can meet this weekend is in the Trojan Wars final. D.P. Todd opens the tournament at 3 p.m. against the Kelly Road Roadrunners, while PGSS takes on the College Heights Cougars at 4:45 p.m.
The Roadrunners are coming off a 67-64 win over College Heights in City League play Wednesday.
In today's other matchups, the Duchess Park Condors play the Correlieu Clan of Quesnel at 6:30 p.m. and the Smithers Gryphons face the South Peace Penguins of Dawson Creek at 8:15 p.m.
Semifinals are set for Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. and the final is at 8:15 p.m.
