Triathlete Elliot ascends podium again

As a result, he broke the tape first as a repeat winner Sunday in the 17th annual Spruce Credit Union Kids Fun Triathlon.

Competing in the 13-14-year-old boys individual race, Elliot swam, rode and ran his way to the overall title, posting the best time of the day on the long course in 22 minutes 50 seconds.

His efforts in getting to the head of the pack at the finish line Sunday at Fort George Park shaved nearly 10 minutes off his 2010 triathlon time of 32:11 which resulted in gold when he was part of the 11-12-year-old age class.

On Sunday, he stopped the clock 4:40 ahead of second-place Jordan Ozcan (27:09), while Keshav Mann was third in the 13-14-year-old boys race in 44:28.

Warm and mostly sunny conditions were the order of the day for 89 racers.

Elliot and all competitors in the 11-15-year-old categories started with a 100-metrre swim at Four Seasons Pool. From the transition area, they rode eight kilometres to the park, then ran for two kilometres.

The youngest age group -- 6-8-year-olds -- swam 50 metres, rode four kilometres and ran one kilometre. The 9-10-year-olds swam 100m, rode four kilometres and ran one kilometre.

In the youngest (8-and-under) age division, Alley Steindl won the girls race in 19:09, while a gentlemen who registered as The Rainier Rebel was tops in the boys 8-and-under class in 22:15.

Other age class winners from Sunday's race were: Girls 9-10: Sydney Casey, 22:06; boys 9-10: Isaac Northrup, 20:50; girls 11-12: Sian Steindl, 30:46; boys 11-12: Logan Ozcan, 37:59; girls 13-14: Ariel Gilbert, 28:52; 15 year-old-girls: Samantha Unger, 25:13; and 15-year-old boys: Josh Bleackley, 31:00.

Team event winners were: Girls 8-and-under: The Belles of the Ball, 22:20; boys 8-and-under: The Leopards, 39:54; mixed 8-and-under: The Iron Squirrels, 22:59; Boys 11-12: The Triple Threat, 21:27; mixed 11-12: The Brown Duo, 47:44.
