UNBC's men's soccer side has added a brother act to its roster.
Dan Goodey and his younger brother Rob from Langley will lace up their cleats for the Timberwolves for the 2014 season in the CIS Canada West.
Dan is a five-foot-11 centre back defender who's already toiled for a year in the CIS West with the University of Fraser Valley Cascades, while younger brother Rob, a five-foot-10 goalkeeper, will get a taste of university soccer for the first time this season.
UNBC will see eight starters returning to the lineup this fall and Dan will add a much-needed boost to a young team that's played in the CIS for two seasons, said Twolves head coach Alan Alderson.
"Two of the holes we were hoping to fill were at centre back and right back," he said. "Dan is the same age as most of our returning starters and brings with him an extremely high soccer IQ which is a wonderful attribute to have when playing centre back.
"He's going to be an instant impact player for us and we are looking forward to seeing his speed, tough tackling, tenacity and smooth technique on the ball as well as his feisty and aggressive nature as we look to become a serious contender in the toughest division in the country."
Alderson first saw Rob Goodey via video footage and then watched him play live and realized he was indeed a keeper to suit up for UNBC.
Rob will join other goalkeepers Mitch Macfarlane and Tyrone Venhola between the posts.
"I was incredibly impressed with his technique, positioning and game savvy," said Alderson. "We are so excited to have three fantastic goalkeepers on our team and we look forward to them pushing each other to higher standards and levels of performance."
Both Goodey brothers were born and raised in Harlow, England and grew up in the English soccer system. They moved to B.C. in 2008 and joined the High Performance Soccer League in Vancouver right away.
"Both Rob and Dan are soccer junkies, and it's always a great thing to add players who are absolutely passionate about playing soccer and finding a way to win."
