The task at hand this weekend is a colossal one for the UNBC Timberwolves.

They're in a dogfight trying to clinch their first-ever postseason berth in the U Sports Canada West women's basketball standings and they'll be trying to defeat one of the hottest teams in the league tonight and Saturday in Vancouver when they take on the UBC Thunderbirds.

The T-birds (12-4) have won three in a row and have already locked up a playoff spot. The T-wolves (6-10) are coming off a weekend split of their two-game series at Manitoba and would consider the weekend a success if they can win at least one at UBC.

The regular season ends next weekend at Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre, where UNBC will host Saskatchewan in a two-game set.

The UNBC men (4-12) are all but mathematically out of the playoff race, sitting 15th out of 17 teams with only four games left and this weekend they'll be taking on the top seeds in Canada West.

The T-birds (15-1) have won seven straight and can clinch first place with a win over the UNBC tonight.

The women's game at War Memorial Gym on the UBC campus starts at 6 p.m., followed by the men's matchup at 8 p.m.
