The UNBC Timberwolves men's soccer team completed a five-game exhibition eastern road trip on the weekend with a split.
After a 2-1 win Friday over the University of Guelph, the T-wolves wrapped up the trip with a 2-0 loss Saturday to the Carleton Ravens. The Ravens opened the scoring in the sixth minute and added the insurance marker in the 86th. The T-wolves return home with a 2-3 record.
T-wolves head coach Alan Alderson said the team played like it was their fifth road game.
"We started off a bit sluggish today and were punished by a very aggressive and assertive Carleton team," said Alderson. "We worked ourselves into the game and again showed that we have made some very solid steps forward this season."
Alderson added the T-wolves received good defence up the middle from Amedee Cimana and Brett Bobier, while Liam MacPhail and Logan Phenuff were solid at cerntre back. Mitch Macfarlane played entire game in the UNBC goal.
Overall, Alderson said the trip allowed some of the best eastern teams in the country to learn about the UNBC soccer program, while allowing the young T-wolves players to be tested by some of the country's top university players.
Prince George soccer fans will get their first opportunity to see the UNBC men in action Friday, 2 p.m. at the North Cariboo men's fields when the T-wolves host the Pacwest TRU Wolfpack.
T-wolf women sweep Grande Prairie
Who needs Crosby when the UNBC women's soccer team has Sydney Hall, Sydney Wilson and Sidney Roy to provide the offensive punch.
The trio of Sydneys combined for all five goals in a 5-4 win Sunday at the North Cariboo fields over the Alberta College Athletic Conference Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves, sweeping the two-game exhibition series including Saturday's 4-3 win.
Roy tied the game at 1-1 for the T-wolves four minutes after Danica Blasius gave the visitors an early advantage. Wilson gave the T-wolves a 2-1 lead a few minutes later. Before the half was done Blasius and Wilson exchanged goals, putting the T-wolves ahead 3-2 at the break.
Early in the the second half, Roy notched her second goal of the game to give UNBC a 4-2 and after the Wolves pulled with a goal at 4-3 with 13 minutes to go Hall potted her fourth goal of the weekend with six minutes to play. Grande Prairie added a late goal to complete the scoring.
