The UNBC Timberwolves women’s soccer team head coach Neil Sedgwick has announced that centre midfielder Anna Thorsteinson of Kelowna has committed to UNBC for the 2024 season and beyond.

Thorsteinson, a soon-to-be graduate of Okanagan Mission Secondary, visited UNBC in March alongside fellow 2024 commit Grace Barrett. During her visit, Thorsteinson trained with her new team and said she’s excited for the scholastic and sporting opportunities that UNBC provides.

“I just love the campus so much,” said Thorsteinson, who plans to study psychology while pursuing a Bachelor of Science. “It’s really outdoorsy, and just so nice compared to where I’ve been training before.”

She arrives at UNBC having previously played alongside Anna deWynter, Aimée Glasser and Lauren Gubbels at the club level (Thompson Okanagan Football Club) and has also trained with Kayla Gareau and Kambria Mellum.

She added, “It’s always been a dream to play at the Canada West level and have such a close-knit community together. That’s what I’m most excited for.”

Seeing Thorsteinson thrive during her visit left head coach Neil Sedgwick feeling encouraged. “Anna is one of those players who are amazing to work with," he said. "Over the past couple of years Anna has progressed through the ranks of youth football to the point where she has grown into a solid BCSPL player at TOFC. Players who are late to arrive at the top level of youth soccer have an incredible appetite for continued growth and I think UNBC is a great fit for Anna. I am excited to see her growth over the next few years.”
