Big Save Brit’s return to the UNBC Timberwolves' lineup resulted on both victory and a conference honour.
The TWolves, in conjunction with the Canada West Conference announced today that third-year goalkeeper Brityn Hinsche of Williams Lake has been named the Canada West Women’s Soccer Player of the Week.
After suffering an injury in UNBC’s opening match at Mount Royal on Sept. 6, the reigning team MVP and Female Athlete of the Year at UNBC returned to the TWolves goal on Sunday and turned aside all 14 shots she faced in a 1-0 victory. For Hinsche it marked her third career Canada West victory, and third career clean sheet.
In two appearances so far this season, Hinsche has stopped all 16 shots fired her way, and has now amassed 173 career regular season saves. Her 128 saves made during the 2023 season tied her with Jordan Hall for the most saves in a single season by a UNBC goalkeeper.
Hinsche becomes the first Timberwolves student athlete to receive a Canada West Player of the Week honour since Justin Sunga captured the honour in February, 2024.
Fresh off Sunday’s victory, the UNBC Timberwolves Women are now gearing up for two more home games beginning Friday at 6 p.m. against the University of the Fraser Valley, followed by a noon Sunday clash with Trinity Western.
