While the COVID-19 pandemic has turned their sports and school years upside down, a record number of UNBC Timberwolves rose to the academic challenge.

This year 28 T-wolves members were named U SPORTS Academic All-Canadians. The annual awards honour student athletes who maintain a 3.67 (A-) or better grade point average.

“It is incredibly difficult to manage the demands of an academic course load, while also training, practicing, traveling, and playing games at the U SPORTS level,” said Loralyn Murdoch, UNBC director of athletics and recreation. “We are extremely proud of our student-athletes who continue to excel on and off the court and pitch. The 3.67 GPA is truly challenging to maintain, so to see a record number of honourees is a great point of pride for everyone at UNBC.”

Twenty UNBC Timberwolves made the All-Canadians list during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons.

The UNBC women's soccer team lead the way with Mikaela Cadorette, Kenzie Chilcott, Sofia Jones, Mara McCleary, Brooke Molby, Hallie Nystedt, Paige Payne, Kiana Swift, Claire Turner and Kyra Wallace named All-Canadians.

Reid Adams, Johnathan Botelho, Mitchell Linley, Anthony Preston, Jonah Smith, Aidan Way and Daniel Zadravec of the T-Wolves men's soccer team also made the All-Canadians list.

Saje Gosal, Spencer Ledoux, Colburn Pearce, Vova Pluzhnikov, Christopher Ross from the men's basketball team and Mikaela Cadorette, Lucy Guan, Madison Landry, Rebecca Landry, Alina Shakirova and Anastasia Soltes from the women's basketball team also made the list.
