On a chilly night in Prince George, the UNBC Timberwolves and Manitoba Bisons women's soccer teams' offences went cold.
The clubs played to a 0-0 draw Friday in Canada West action.
A small crowd took in the game, which was moved from North Cariboo field to the PGYSA field due to soggy conditions. The tie was the second for the T-wolves (0-7-2) this season and the fourth for the Bisons (1-5-4).
It wasn't too much of a surprise the teams had trouble scoring, as the T-wolves have only found the back of the net four times this season while the Bisons have scored seven times.
UNBC continued to show improvement from its inaugural CIS season last year when it dropped an 11-0 decision to the Bisons in Manitoba. Friday night the teams played a defensive game, waiting for each other to make a mistake so they could capitalize.
T-wolves goalkeeper Jordan Hall said it was nice to see her team have the better scoring opportunities for once.
"We definitely outplayed them most of the game and had more chances then them," said the third-year keeper. "It was really good to see our team play so well and it was against a team we didn't do so well against last year."
In the second half, the T-wolves had a few chances to score on Bisons' goalkeeper Martina Arran, who replaced Brittany
MacSween after the break, but were unable to get a good shot away.
Jessica Erickson tried to spark the offence for UNBC with a couple of rushes down the right side - the first stopped by a Bisons' defender and the second time she sent the ball flying over the net.
Sydney Hall had an opportunity to put the T-wolves up by a goal late in the game but tried to make a pass, which bounced off the Manitoba defender and out of harm's way, instead of taking a shot.
The T-wolves haven't won a regular
season soccer game in Canada West or the B.C. college league since October 2009.
UNBC is back in action Sunday against the Winnipeg Wesmen (1-8) at noon on the NCSSL fields. Last season, the T-wolves and Wesmen played to a 0-0 draw on a windy day in Winnipeg as both teams made their CIS debut.
The UNBC men are in Alberta for games in Lethbridge today and Calgary on Sunday. The T-wolves have a 1-5-2 record in the Pacific Division, while the Calgary Dinos
(5-4-1) are second in the Prairie Division and the Lethbridge Pronghorns (2-7-1) are sixth.
In exhibition basketball, the UNBC women beat Trinity Western University Spartans 65-54 at the TRU Wolfpack
tournament in Kamloops on Friday night.
