The Coast Inn of the North Midget Tier 1 Cougars are perfect so far at the Richmond International Bantam Midget tournament this week.
Going into their final round-robin game last night against the host Richmond Blues, the Cougars were 3-0 and atop the Sawada division, one of two midget tier 1 round-robin pools. Results from Monday's game weren't available at Citizen deadlines.
Prince George opened the tournament Saturday with a 5-1 win against the Cloverdale Colts.
Bret Wakabayashi, Myles Mattila and Chris Metcalfe gave the Cougars a 3-1 lead in the first first period. Jeremy Gervais tallied in the second period, while Treavor Gagne added a single in the third.
Jamie Ferguson earned the win between the pipes for Prince George.
Saturday, Darian Long notched four goals, while Mattila added a pair in the Cougars 7-1 victory over Shawnigan Lake School from Vancouver Island.
Mattila gave Prince George a 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the opening frame.
Long scored his first goal with 26 seconds left in the first period for a 3-0 lead.
Shawnigan scored its lone goal in the second period, but the Cougars goal rush continued in the third period.
Metcalfe tallied first, while Long scored three more goals in a 10-minute span to guarantee the win.
Dylan Krahn and Devin Sutton each had two assists in the game.
Goaltender Jake Sweet picked up the win for the Cougars.
Long's nose for the net continued Monday morning when Prince George downed the Langley Eagles 5-2.
Long scored twice in a five-minute span in the first period.
After the Eagles narrowed the lead early in the second period, Mitchell Truefitt and Metcalfe restored the Cougars' two-goal cushion with single tallies.
Langley scored a goal late in the frame, but Wakabayashi added Prince George's fifth goal early in the third period to secure the win.
Ferguson earned his second victory of the tournament in the net for the Cougars.
The tournament wraps up Wednesday.
