Alyx Treasure cleared the bar and landed in the history books.
Treasure, a Grade 12 student at D.P. Todd secondary school, leaped to a gold medal in women's high jump during Saturday competition at the B.C. high school track and field championships. Her first-place result at Burnaby's Swangard Stadium had extra significance because it made her the provincial champion for the third year in a row.
In the 44-year history of the meet, only one other athlete -- Debbie Brill -- pulled off a similar feat. She later became an Olympian.
Treasure's winning jump was 1.80 metres. The silver medal went to Georgia Ellenwood of Langley, whose best effort was 1.70m.
