PGSS Polars sharpshooter Jules Tersago rings up 52 points in quad-A playoff

The Cedars Christian Eagles of Prince George dropped to 0-2 at the 16-team single-A boys basketball championship Thursday in Langley.

Jules Tersago picked a great time to get hot with his shooting hand at the BC high school boys basketball quad-A provincial championship in Langley.

The Prince George Polars guard was a one-man wrecking crew on Thursday, totalling 52 points to give the Polars a 90-87 win over the Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers of Surrey. The teams were tied at 87 when Tersago delivered his final strike, his sixth triple of the game, which ended it.

That evened the Polars’ record at the 16-team tournament at 1-1.

The Polars opened with an 89-56 loss to No. 2 Spectrum.

Ranked 15th, PGSS will play No. 11 Kelowna Secondary in a playoff Friday at 5:15 p.m. The Polars can still finish as high as ninth.

All four senior boys tournaments are being played this week in Langley.

In the single-A championship, the Cedars Christian Eagles, ranked 10th out of 16 teams, came close but lost their opener Wednesday to No. 7 Similkameen 68-66 in overtime.

Ryan Crosina led the Eagles with 24 points, while Cole Staves collected 19.

Today, despite a  32-point effort from Crosina, Cedars then lost 66-61 to No. 15 Brookes Westshore.

Top-ranked Unity Christian defeated No. 16 Fort St. James Falcons 78-37 on Wednesday.

The Falcons then lost 64-61 Thursday afternoon to No. 9 Ecole Gabrielle-Roy. Carsen Wenger hit for 27 Falcon points in the loss.

The McBride Mustangs, ranked 14th, lost 113-67 to No. 3 St John’s on opening day, then suffered a 78-37 loss today to No. 11 Duncan Christian.

McBride will play Cedars Friday at 10:15 a.m.

At the triple-A tournament, the College Heights Cougars lost 77-31 to No. 3 Lord Byng on Wednesday. Thursday morning, the Polars fell to 0-2 after a 62-56 loss to No. 6 Maple Ridge.

Friday at 10:15 a.m., PGSS will face the loser of Grandview Heights-Gladstone game.
