Prince George pugilist Kenny Lally has a couple of international assignments ahead of him.
Lally, a member of the Inner City Boxing Club, has been asked to join Team Canada for a training camp in Puerto Rico in February and then to fight for his country at a tournament in the Dominican Republic. He's the reigning Canadian champion in the 52-kilogram division but will move up to the 56kg class for the five-nation event.
In the Dominican Republic, Lally will get the chance to trade punches with Cuban boxer Lazaro Alvarez, the current world champion at 56kg and a bronze-medalist at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Lally competed in an Olympic qualifier in May of 2012 and fell two wins shy of a berth in the London Games.
To get tuned up for his ring appearances in Puerto Rico and the Dominican, Lally will travel to Washington State for the Tacoma Golden Gloves a couple weeks from now.
