T-wolves visit Manitoba to kick off season

The start of November marks the return of Canadian Interuniversity Sport basketball and both UNBC Timberwolves teams will tip off the new season in Manitoba.

The T-wolves women's and men's teams have a date with the University of Manitoba Bisons on Friday Nov. 1, and will remain in the Manitoba capital to take on the Winnipeg Wesmen on Saturday, Nov. 2.

The Wesmen are coming off a fourth-place finish in the Canada West Conference playoffs, while the Bisons also qualified for playoffs in 2013.

The following weekend, Nov. 8-9, UNBC hosts its homeopener agains the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack in doubleheader action at the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre.

Other home dates on the UNBC home calendar include Nov. 22 (Brandon), Nov. 23 (Regina), Jan. 9 (Calgary), Jan. 11 (Lethbridge), Jan. 17-18 (Victoria), and Feb. 7-8 (Fraser Valley).

UNBC takes the road again Nov. 15-16 (Trinity Western), Nov. 29-30 (UBC-Okanagan), Jan. 24-25 (UBC), Jan. 31 (Saskatchewan), Feb. 1 (Alberta).

The T-wolves end the 2013-14 CIS schedule on the road Feb. 14-15 in Calgary, where they meet the Mount Royal University Cougars. Twelve of the T-wolves' 22 games this season are outside of Prince George.

UNBC, which also has men's and women's soccer teams competing at the varsity level, will play a second season as a probationary member of the CIS.

Still in the process of filling the head coaching position left vacant two weeks ago when Loralyn Murdoch took on the role as UNBC's athletic and recreation director, the UNBC women are coming off a surprising 8-14 finish in their CIS debut last season.

Todd Jordan is heading into his fourth season as T-wolves' men's team head coach. The UNBC men ended up with a 6-16 record in their first CIS venture.

The CIS women's basketball championship tournament will be hosted in Ottawa by Carleton University, March 7-9, while the men's tournament is set for Windsor, Ont., March 14-16.
