T-wolves suffer first loss

One was the loneliest number Sunday for the UNBC Northern Timberwolves men's soccer team.

The T-wolves lost their first game of the PACWEST season by a 1-0 count to the Langara Falcons Sunday at Empire Field in Vancouver, then boarded the bus for Prince George, thinking how the result could have been different if one shot off a goalpost, one missed open net, or one unfinished breakaway had been slightly altered.

"We kind of let this one slip out of our fingers," said UNBC men's coach Sonny Pawar. "It was fairly even, although we created far more chances than they did, but we were just unable to capitalize. It was just one of those days where the ball refused to go in the net and we ended up paying the price for that."

Langara scored its goal with 12 minutes left on a partial breakaway.

The T-wolves now sport a 2-1-1 record. Saturday in Squamish, Kellen Strobl scored with 20 minutes left for the winner in a 2-1 UNBC victory over the Quest University Kermodes.

"That was an excellent result for us, the guys put in the effort they needed to and stuck to the gameplan and neutralized their threats extremely well," said Pawar.

Amedee Cimana scored the other goal for UNBC.

The UNBC women dropped to 0-4-0 after losing 6-0 to Langara. They dropped a 7-0 decision to Quest on Saturday.
