The UNBC Timberwolves men's soccer team has added two more pieces to its university soccer puzzle.
Striker/midfielder Nicolas Favia of Surrey and centre back Darin Kamsteeg of Victoria signed letters of intent to join the T-wolves for the team's second season in Canadian Interuniversity Sport.
Favia, a graduate of Holy Cross secondary school in 2011, drew the attention of UNBC coach Alan Alderson during a stellar season in the Under-21 Fraser Valley league, in which he was the league MVP and leading scorer.
In a UNBC release, Alderson said Favia "will make us far more dangerous when we are going forward and has developed a very strong reputation as a goal scorer.
"Nic has been very successful as a youth player and in his transition to the U-21 level and we hope that his history of winning MVP awards and Golden Boots on championship teams continues as he starts his university career with us. We are looking forward to having one of our top attacking players be one of our most experienced and dangerous players."
Kamsteeg attends the Centre for Soccer Excellence in Victoria and is still enrolled in high school at Reynolds secondary school until he graduates in June.
"Every one of his coaches spoke incredibly highly about the quality of person and quality of teammate we have added to our program," said Alderson. "Darin is known for playing and training with heart and passion and described by his coaches as being an inspirational teammate and an ideal addition to a university program that wants to build the right type of foundation."
"We are excited to be adding a defensive player with the athleticism, grit and determination that Darin brings while also adding a player that will make a significant contribution to building the type of team environment that we have worked very hard to establish."
The T-wolves finished last in 2012 with a 1-13 record and will be looking for improvement when the season begins in September.
