The UNBC Timberwolves will try to build on a four-game winning streak when they face the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack tonight at the Northern Sport Centre.
In Canada West men's basketball, the surging UNBC team now has a 4-4 record and sits ninth in the 17-team conference. Kamloops-based Thompson Rivers (3-5) is currently 11th. At the end of the season, the top 12 clubs will make the playoffs.
The game starts at 8 p.m.
"Thompson Rivers is a good team with whom we are very familiar," said UNBC head coach Todd Jordan. "They have a very versatile player in Volodymyr Iegorov, who will present some challenges for our defence."
Iegorov, a fifth-year forward from Ukraine, is averaging 17.5 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. He's also efficient from long range, with a three-point shooting percentage of 37.5.
For the Timberwolves, third-year guard James Agyeman is making a bigger impact with each passing week. He's averaging 4.9 assists per game, second in Canada West, and hit for a total of 33 points in a pair of road wins last weekend against the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades.
WolfPack head coach Scott Clark is expecting a tough test from the T-wolves.
"They do a really good job," he said on the TRU athletics website. "Todd Jordan has done a really good job there for years. They play hard. They are very organized. Tough kids. Tough program."
Before the men play, the UNBC and TRU women's teams will be on the NSC hardwood. That game starts at 6 p.m.
Both the Timberwolves (1-7) and WolfPack (2-6) have struggled so far this season and sit 16th and 15th respectively in the standings.
UNBC and TRU - women and men - will also meet on Saturday at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The games will wrap up the 2016 portion of the schedule.
Saturday's women's game is Shoot for the Cure night and will raise funds for breast cancer research.
