Another lesson in the school of hard knocks was learned by the UNBC Timberwolves soccer teams Saturday as they continue their inaugural seasons of Canada West action.

The UNBC men fell to 0-3 after a 4-0 loss at the University of Alberta to a Golden Bears squad ranked third in the country. It was 3-0 at the half.

T-wolves head coach Alan Alderson said the team played their best game of the season and showed a lot of improvement on defence. Next the men head off on a seven-hour bus ride to Saskatoon where they'll take on a well-rested Saskatchewan Huskies (1-0-1) squad.

"I'm hoping that we play as well as we did today," said Alderson. "If we do I'll be happy."

Meanwhile the UNBC women fell 10-0 in the first-ever CIS game contested in Prince George at the North Cariboo soccer fields to the Victoria Vikes. The Vikes produced four goals in the first half and six in the final 45 minutes.

Emma Greig led the Vikes with three goals while Lindsay Hoetzel had two. Both women only played 45 minutes.

T-wolves keeper Jordan Hall made 16 saves as UNBC fell to 0-3, having given up 21 goals in its last two games after a 0-0 draw with the Winnipeg Wesmen in the opener last weekend.

Stephanie Parker and Tanya Jones each played 45 minutes in the Vikes' net with Parker stopping both T-wolves shots she faced. Jones didn't face any shots.

The UNBC women return to action Sunday at noon on the North Cariboo fields against the Fraser Valley Cascades (1-1).
