Thanks to Sava Yungman and Jordan Vertue, the record book of the Prince George Barracudas requires significant updating.
At the 24th annual MJB Law Classic in Kamloops last weekend, the two local swimmers combined to set 11 new Barracuda standards. In the men's category, Yungman established club records in the 100-metre freestyle (51.50 seconds), 200m freestyle (one minute 54.48 seconds), 50m backstroke (27.33), 100m backstroke (56.60), 200m backstroke (2:05.41), 50m butterfly (26.12) and 100m butterfly (56.25). In the 10-and-under girls division, meanwhile, Vertue now holds records in the 50m backstroke (35.02), 100m backstroke (1:15.37), 100m breaststroke (1:29.05) and 200m individual medley (2:24.33).
Nine-year-old Chloe Vertue provided a couple more highlights for the Barracudas when she put down qualifying times for the double-A provincial championships in the 100m backstroke and 100m butterfly.
In the medal results, the Barracudas won 27 gold, 11 silver and nine bronze. Overall, they finished eighth out of 19 teams.
