Top experts in their fields, including Canadian Olympian Adam Kreek, will gather at UNBC's Bentley Centre on Thursday for the Sustainability and Legacy Summit. The purpose of the get-together is for people from all sectors -- including business, social development, healthcare, education and environment -- to share ideas about how the concept of sustainability can help guide their work practices.

The summit was organized by Dan Adamson, manager of sustainability for the 2015 Canada Winter Games. The Games themselves will happen in Prince George from Feb. 13 to March 1 of that year.

Kreek, a rower who helped Canada's men's eight team win gold at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, is the event's keynote speaker. He will step behind the podium at 12:30 p.m. to talk about the power of sport, leadership, human heath and the environment.

Kreek, who holds a degree in geotechnical engineering and hydrology from Stanford University, is being brought to town by McElhanney Consulting. Other event sponsors are the 2015 Canada Winter Games, Prince George Community Forests and the Fraser Basin Council.

Speakers will include: Dr. Charles Jago, chair of the Fraser Basin Council; Rob Abbott, executive director of the ministry of environment's Carbon Neutral and Government Outreach program; and Tim Reeve, a sustainability supply chain expert from Reeve Consulting.

Stuart Ballantyne, CEO of the 2015 Games, UNBC geography professor Greg Halseth and Dr. Anne Pousette will also participate and Anne Duffy, an international sustainability expert, will serve as the facilitator.

The summit will get underway at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude at 4:30 p.m. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
