Justin Sunga was the late-game hero for the UNBC Timberwolves, scoring 11 of his team’s 15 points in overtime to seal a 69-67 U SPORTS Canada West men’s basketball win over the host Thompson Rivers WolfPack Friday afternoon in Kamloops.

Sunga’s three-point jump shot with 41 seconds left put the T-wolves ahead by three and Josh Gillespie delivered two clutch free throws with eight seconds left on the clock in OT.

Those two shots from the charity stripe were needed to claim the victory because TRU’s Simon Crossfield hit from three-point range to reduce the margin to two points with one second left.

The win improves the T-wolves’ 10th-place record to 8-7 with five games left to play, including a rematch with the (3-10) WolfPack Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Sunga finished with 17 points, four triples, six rebounds and five assists, while Gillespie also collected 17 points. Evgeny Baukin contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds for UNBC.

Daniel Bost led all TRU shooters wit 14 points.

The UNBC women (2-12) will take on the WolfPack (2-10) tonight at 7:30 p.m., and again on Saturday at 5:30.
