Spruce Kings trade for future

The Prince George Spruce Kings have traded defenceman Spencer Schoech to the OCN Blizzard of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League for future considerations.

The Prince George Spruce Kings have traded defenceman Spencer Schoech to the OCN Blizzard of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League for future considerations.

Schoech played in 20 games for the Spruce Kings last season but is going into his 20-year-old season and is an import player (from Washington State) as well.

"Spencer played well in his time with us last season," said Spruce Kings general manager Mike Hawes. "Unfortunately he has been caught in a bit of a numbers game as he would have been an overage player and an import player for us this upcoming season. He is going to a good program in Manitoba and will do well there."

In other Spruce Kings news, 2012-13 captain Trevor Esau was named the co-winner, along with West Kelowna Warriors forward Max French, of the FortisBC energy player of the year. It's the first year the award has been handed out.

During his four seasons in Prince George, Esau manned the Spruce Kings blueline for 159 BCHL games and earned 11 FortisBC energy player of the game nods in 51 games last season.
