The Powell River Kings were due and Nick Halagian seized the role as slump-breaker.
After six straight losses, Powell River was not in the mood to play hospitable hosts to the other Kings of the B.C. Hockey League, the Prince George Spruce Kings, and hammered the Spruce Kings 6-2 Friday night.
Halagian led the way offensively with three goals and an assist. Halagian's fourth of the season made it a 2-0 game late in the first period and the 20-year-old from St. Catharines, Ont., scored two more in the third period on Spruce Kings goalie Sam Tanguay.
Carter Turnbull, Gavin Rauser and Jonny Evans also scored for Powell River. Jake LeBrun and Kyle Johnson were the Spruce Kings' scorers.
Powell River outshot the Kings 40-20. Jeff Smith notched the victory in goal for the Kings, his eighth of the season in 14 game appearances.
Powell River went 2-for-6 on the power play while Prince George was 1-for-3.
After winning eight of their first 10 games, then losing seven of their next nine, Friday's win evened Powell River's record at 10-10-0-0, while the The Spruce Kings dropped to 5-13-0-1.
The Spruce Kings continue their quest for points on the road tonight in Port Alberni, where they face the Alberni Valley Bulldogs (7 p.m. start), then head to Victoria for a date with the Grizzlies Sunday afternoon (2 p.m.).
