A fall audition with the Prince George Spruce Kings laid the groundwork for what could be a lengthy B.C. Hockey League career for forward Brayden Skogstad.

The Kings announced Monday they’ve signed the 2005-born Kelowna native for next season.

Skogstad is currently playing in his hometown for RINK Hockey Academy of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League.

“I couldn’t be happier about becoming a Spruce King next season”, said Skogstad. “Attending main camp and having the opportunity to play in a couple of pre-season games solidified the fact that this a great fit for a player like me. I’m excited for what is ahead.”

Skogstad played for the Kings in preseason game in late September in Merritt and West Kelowna. He played 30 games in 2019-20 for the Okanagan Rockets U-15 team and produced 14 goals and 28 assists.

“Brayden is an exceptional young man and an extremely hard-working player who is counted upon in every facet of the game,” said Kings assistant general manager Craig Carter. “Brayden possesses a high-end skill set and hockey sense combined with his 200-foot game and he will be a great addition next fall.”
