The Prince George Spruce Kings rallied from an early 1-0 deficit and tallied four goals in the third period to double the Trail Smoke Eaters 6-3 Saturday afternoon.
Competing at the B.C. Hockey League Showcase in Chilliwack, it was the Kings first victory of the season, having lost their first four games to start the 2014-15 campaign.
Trailing 3-2 early in third period, 18-year-old forward Braiden Epp scored the equalizer for the Kings at the 4:37 mark.
The score would remain knotted at 3-3 until Kings 19-year-old forward Connor Logan, netted his first goal of the game at the 18:09 mark which would eventually hold up as the winner.
With Smoke Eaters goaltender Bailey MacBurnie pulled in favour of an extra attacker, Kings defenceman Stephen Penner added an empty-netter a little more than a minute later. Logan added his second with two seconds left in the clock.
Harlan Orr gave the Smoke Eaters an early 1-0 lead at the 11:19 mark of the first period.
A minute into the first period, Kings captain Jake LeBrun tied it up at 1-1. Rhett Willcox scored on the power play for another Smoke Eaters lead, until Kyle Johnson evened it at the 14:02 mark.
Keinan Scott gave Trail a 3-2 lead at the 3:27 mark of the third period until Epp scored a minute later to spark the Kings comeback.
Parker Colley, Alex Stoley, Adam Brubacher, Adam Burnett, Nick Guerra and Cavin Tisley each chipped in single assists.
Spruce Kings 20-year-old netminder Sam Tanguay, acquired in a trade Sept. 15 from the Aurora Tigers of the Ontario Junior Hockey League for Alex Brooks-Potts, swept aside 34 of 37 shots he faced. Trail outshot the Kings 37-35 and fall to 2-3.
