The Prince George Spruce Kings are building some playoff momentum.
The Spruce Kings pounded the Surrey Eagles 6-2 on the road Saturday to keep their hopes alive they’ll leapfrog the Langley Rivermen into third place in the B.C. Hockey League’s Mainland Division standings.
Kings centre and Yale recruit Kyle Johnson had a four-point game with two goals and two assists. Johnson’s second–period goals, his 13th and 14th of the season, both on Prince George power plays, gave the Kings a 3-1 lead. Hunter Luhmann opened the scoring in the third period and also found the net in the third period, after Darius Davidson had made it a 3-2 game. Ben Brar scored into an empty Surrey net, 18:25 into the third period, and Travis Schneider completed the scoring in the final minute.
Paul McAvoy had the other Surrey goal.
Aris Anagnostopoulos made 27 saves for his third career BCHL win. Keelan Williams took the loss in the Eagles nets, blocking 43 of 48 shots he faced.
The Kings went 2-for-3 on the power play. Surrey was 0-for-5.
The win improved the Spruce Kings’ record to 23-23-4-2. The Eagles (16-33-4-0) remain fifth in the Mainland. They’ll host the Spruce Kings again today at 4 p.m. on the Olympic-sized rink at South Surrey Arena.
