On Friday, the Spruce Kings postponed their scheduled weekend B.C. Hockey League games against the Chilliwack Chiefs knowing the city's unionized arena staff would be on strike Saturday. The Kings made arrangements with the Chiefs and the BCHL office to have those games rescheduled for the new year.

But after consulting Friday with CUPE staff, the Chiefs and the BCHL office, Kings general manager Mike Hawes arranged to have the games played Sunday and Monday.

"They have job action planned for Saturday and they don't have anything planned beyond that," said Hawes. "I knew all along the rinks would be open Sunday, Monday was the question mark for me. As far as I know there's no job action planned for Monday, so we're going to go ahead and play our game Monday night against Chilliwack."

Fans are being asked to bring plastic-wrapped gloves, socks and tuques to Sunday's game in support of the Kings' Drop the Gloves and Sock it to 'Em promotion to benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The donated items will be thrown onto the ice after the Kings score their first goal of the game.
