Spruce Kings lose in Langley

The first-place Langley Rivermen created a bit more breathing room for themselves atop the B.C. Hockey League's Mainland Division standings.
They handed the second-place Prince George Spruce Kings a 2-1 loss Saturday night in Langley to move three points ahead of the Spruce Kings.
Brendan Budy, late in the first period, and Angus Cruickshank, on a Rivermen power play 3:23 into the third, were the Langley goalscorers. Kings captain Kyle Johnson cut the lead in half 6:54 into the third period but that's as close as it got for the visitors from the north.
Braedon Fleming blocked 18 of 19 shots in net for Langley. The Rivermen (9-3-6-0) fired 21 shots at Kings goalie Evan DeBrouwer.
Missed opportunities on the power play hurt the Spruce Kings (8-6-2-3), who went 0-for-6 with the man advantage, while the Rivermen were 1-for-4.
The Spruce Kings play this afternoon in South Surrey against the fourth-place Surrey Eagles (8-8-1-1). The Eagles are coming off a 4-2 win Saturday over Coquitlam. Game time today is 4 p.m.
The Spruce Kings started their roadtrip Friday night in Chilliwack with a  3-0 win over the Chiefs.
