Spruce Kings lose fourth straight in Duncan; Goodbrand signs with Bentley U

Spruce Kings forward Owen Goodbrand has signed an NCAA commitment to Bentley University.

The Prince George Spruce Kings suffered their fourth-straight B.C. Hockey League loss Saturday in Duncan, losing 4-3 to the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

All seven goals were scored in the second period.

Gavin Giesbrecht fired a pair for the Caps, while Dryden Kuramotoa and Brock Cummings each fired singles. Cummings notched the gamewnner 10:05 into the period.

Skogan Schrott, JR Perdion and Jared Langdon scored for Prince George.

Cody Butikis made 29 saves for Cowichan. Charlie Zolin took the loss in the Spruce Kings nets, stopping 31 of 35 shots.

The Capitals improved their seventh-place Coastal Conference record to 12-25-2-1. Prince George (13-25-3-0) remained eighth in the Interior Conference.

The Spruce Kings play Monday afternoon (2 p.m.) in Port Alberni against the third-place Alberni Valley Bulldogs (24-15-1-0).

On Friday, the Spruce Kings announced that 19-year-old forward Owen Goodbrand has signed an NCAA commitment to Bentley University.

This season he has nine goals and 16 assists for 25 points in 41 games.
