Not enough shots, not enough goals.

Both contributed to the downfall of the Prince George Spruce Kings Saturday in Port Alberni.

They lost 4-1 to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs, their second defeat of the weekend for the Spruce Kings on their tour of  the B.C. Hockey League’s Island Division.

Trevor Cosgrove scored twice for the Bulldogs, including an empty-netter, the only goal of the third period. Cayden Kraus and Alex MacDonald also found the net behind Spruce Kings goalie Tavin Grant, who made 31 saves while his team was outshot 34-21.

Parker Colley scored for the Spruce Kings (18-16-2-2), who remained fourth in the Mainland Division, one point behind the Langley Rivermen, who lost 8-1 Saturday in Chilliwack. The win improved the Bulldogs’’ fifth-place Island Division record to 13-18-5-2.

Brody Claeys made 20 saves to pick up his ninth win of the season in the Bulldogs’ nets.

The Spruce Kings will be in Nanaimo Sunday afternoon (2 p.m.) to face the Clippers (15-20-5-1, fourth in Island).
