If winning hockey games is contagious, the Prince George Spruce Kings don’t mind sharing the germ.
As long as they keep it in the family.
They kept up their winning ways Saturday night at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena in front of 1,083 witnesses, putting the chill on a divisional opponent when they beat the Surrey Eagles 6-3.
Jamie Huber had a two-goal night to bring his season total to 10. Tyler Anderson, Sam De Melo, Kyle Johnson, and Chong Lee, into an empty net, also scored for the Spruce Kings, who led 1-0 after one period and 4-1 after two. Brett Mennear finished with two assists.
Nick Minerva, Ty Westgard and Jeffrey Stewart were the Surrey goalscorers.
Tavin Grant made his fourth consecutive start in goal for the Kings and stopped 21 of 24 shots. The Kings fired 41 shots at Surrey goalie Michael Botiz.
Prince George opened the weekend with a 6-1 win Friday at home over the Nanaimo Clippers. The Kings have won three of their last four games since their double-overtime loss in Surrey a week ago.
The win left the third-place Spruce Kings (12-10-1-2) five points ahead of the fourth-place Eagles in the B.C. Hockey League Mainland Division standings.
After a rough start to their season in which they lost eight of their first 11 games, the Kings have been firing on a 9-3-1-1 clip and have climbed into a tie with Cowichan Valley for sixth place overall in the 17-team league.
The Kings play host to Coquitlam and Salmon Arm in their next games Friday and Saturday at RMCA.
